Max’s 6 Month Update

I haven’t done any updates for Max yet but it is something I’ve been wanting to do since he was born – typically every time I went to start one it was time to do the next! But now he’s 6 months old I feel like it’s a good time to start.

Dont they just grow far too fast?! It doesn’t seem at all like it was 6 months ago that Max came kicking and screaming into this world – And to be honest not much has changed on that front!

When Max was born it was just like looking at Amelia the day she came into the world. They were like twins! They both were spitting images of their daddy and this hasn’t changed one bit. Max looks exactly like his dad! His cheeks have gotten even more chubby and he’s just a real chunk in general.

Max is growing really well and is already weighing over 16lbs! He’s been poorly lately and after having a high temperature and heart rate for 3 days the week before Christmas I took him to the doctors (after a lot of nagging from my mum!) and we got sent straight down to the hospital. We sat in the waiting room for 6 hours whilst he was checked on and had a urine test which came back as all fine so they grew it for a few days and found that he has a bug which is making him poorly. He was prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics and an ultrasound scheduled for around six weeks time then it was just a case of waiting.

A few weeks after his antibiotics stopped, he was back to being poorly so we went straight to the doctors and got another course of antibiotics. It’s really frustrating because nobody knows what’s wrong with him yet – even the doctors are confused! He’s totally happy in himself, just a bit grisly especially at night but then he gets really hot and his heart rate goes up indicating that something isn’t quite right still!

Somebody should write a handbook warning expectant parents of the worry and exhaustion that comes with babies and their health and wellbeing!

He’s still not sleeping right through the night yet which is really frustrating since Amelia was from just a few days old. A few months ago we all came down with a really bad cold and it really hit poor Maxy hard. All we could do for him was let him sleep in his bouncer as being upright really helped him with his breathing – he actually slept a lot better too! He went back in his crib for a while but since being poorly and out hospital trip he’s back in his bouncer where he’s most comfortable.

We’ve recently started weaning Max and he loves his food! I’ve been using the Ella’s Kitchen first tastes and also mixing up some fruit and veg at home to freeze and feed him. His favourites are mash, veg & chicken and strawberries & bananas.

I would have liked for him to be further on by now and us to have had a feeding routine firmly set but since he’s been poorly and not himself it’s been hit and miss as to whether he really wants it or if he’s just too grumpy and just wants the comfort of his bottle. The main thing is that he’s happy and growing which he is so even if we don’t secure a routine for another month until after we find out why he’s not been well then I’m not too worried.

Max learnt to roll over at 5 1/2 months and hasn’t stopped rolling around all over the place! He’s trying hard to crawl and even without actually being able to crawl he still gets around the living room at a crazy rate! You can look at him and he’ll be on his blanket and blink and he’ll be the other side of the room! Amelia is being really cute and saying ‘good boy max’ every time he rolls over which is really funny.

Teething has just been a nightmare since he was 3 months old. He’s just always grumpy and dribbling chewing on his fingers non stop! We still don’t actually have any teeth through yet either!

  • Wet wipes – If you leave the packet near him it won’t take him long at all to empty the whole lot!
  • Rolling around & grabbing things.
  • Playing with toys & reaching out for them.
  • His sister! Whenever Amelia talks Max is there smiling away at her and he giggles loads when she dances around acts all silly – it’s really lovely to watch them.

  • Medicine – even calpol that all children seem to love! Anytime you go anywhere near him with a syringe he’s having none of it.
  • Mummy walking out of the room – he cries straight away thinking he’s alone
  • Sleeping in mummy and daddy’s bedroom

I really cannot believe my little squishy baby is half a year old already! He’s getting closer and closer to his first birthday and walking and talking and it seems to be going even faster than Amelia.

  1. That sounds like a worrying time with all the unexplained illness – it’s so hard when you have no idea what’s wrong with them! It must be so lovely to watch the bond develop between him and his sister though – they’ll be such a little double act in a few years! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
