It’s the beginning of the New Year and I’m pretty sure everybody is feeling fat and full – I know I am! And this is exactly why you need to make some space in your wardrobe for Athleisure: the new ‘mums trend’!
Athleisure is the most comfortable form of everyday wear and is super simple to achieve. Sports wear all day everyday is a huge must! Who said sportswear is just for the gym?!
Being a ‘mum on the run’ is pretty much an all day/everyday thing and getting any exercise in sometimes feels an impossibility – most of the time I can’t even be bothered to climb the stairs to get changed into my workout gear let alone actually do a good workout. So this new mum trend suits me perfectly. I’m ready to workout all day! If the mood strikes me I’m all set to run, jump and skip, and if it doesn’t then that’s fine too!
My favourite part of the Athleisure trend is the sports tights/leggings.
Looks: Really stylish actually! I’ve never liked leggings and spent my life in skinny jeans which can sometimes be slightly uncomfortable so sports tights are the perfect inbetween!
Feels: Great! I feel so much more free to be able to move and stretch. The material on sportswear is always super breathable so the sports tights make you feel sucked and shapely whilst making me look a lot slimmer than I actually am! This is always a plus right?!
Practicality: I don’t know about you but when I’m out shopping (especially with two fussy babies and not enough sleep!) I always feel hot, flustered and pretty sweaty and grim. Being in breathable clothing makes all of that disappear and rather than being too hot and stuffy I just feel cool and calm – it’s amazing really how some clothing can just make you feel so good!
This new trend isn’t like any of the sometimes out of reach trends that the celebs usually inspire where you would need a full on style and make up team 24/7 and a nanny to do the night shift and morning shift and basically the all day shift to make happen. It’s just plain and simple even with a standard ‘Mum bun’ that I usually rock, it all totally fits in without any fuss.
My sportswear top picks:
I really do feel and look so much more confident whilst wearing my sports tights and it makes it so easy to go from a standard day to jumping into a bit of fitness. Usually I would spend the day wearing my pyjamas – especially if I know I’m not going anywhere or seeing anybody all day – which makes me feel lazy, slobbish and just generally a bit fat and frumpy! But when I have my sports tights on I feel fresh and active and so much more alive and awake!
If you don’t want to go for full on sportswear head to toe, the tights looks great with a baggy top, tank top and a hoodie!
My sketchers are a must whenever I’m walking or exercising so it’s great that they also look really cool with the whole trend and match my tights perfectly.
Before reading the M&S style page and realising that wearing gym clothes is actually a big go-to trend right now, I was already pretty hooked on the idea after watching Outdaughtered on TLC (a programme following the lives of Adam & Danielle Busby and their 6 children – 5 of which are americas first ever set of all girl quints!) and seeing how the mother Danielle is always wearing her gym clothes when running her busy life. I was pretty inspired since she looks amazing and still manages to fit in exercise even with 6 children!
So there it is! We can all go out grocery shopping in comfort whilst looking super stylish and bang on trend!
What do you think of the new mum trend?
