Making Time For Mum

Having two children means all day – well lets face it all year! – is being taken over by all things baby, toddler and then Jack too when he comes home from work. Of course I love looking after my two little monkeys and then letting Jack just chill out and have some down time after he’s been at work all day but it does pose the question: “When am I making time for Mum?!”

A friend of mine has a baby boy a few weeks younger than Max and we both definitely could do with a bit of baby free time. Going out to the movies or a meal really isn’t my idea of having a nice time or relaxing because I’d rather just have a nice steak and chips at home with jack and watch Game Of Thrones (which were obsessed with). So instead, we decided that after just having babies, what makes the most sense is going out and doing a bit of exercise!

Gymnastics is something I’ve wanted to do for years and I briefly attended a few classes in my last year of secondary school – this is why I really want Amelia to do it and I’m so glad she loves it! We’re going to give it a go and see how we get on.

Another idea for a bit of mum time is taking a class of some sort. I really want to take a blogging and a book writing course. Doing an evening class means that I can go and do something for me and still spend the day with Amelia and Max.

College! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I want to do work wise when my children are in school and are older. I have been thinking for a while about becoming a midwife, and then when we were in the hospital with Max I was thinking about nursing. After speaking with my health visitor and realise just how bloody indecisive I am, I have finally decided to start with a paediatric nursing course which can then follow on to midwifery, neonatal nursing, general paediatric nursing or adult nursing – depending on what route I ultimately decide on.

And finally there’s the obvious, going to the gym or for a swim. I always think of fitness as being the best thing for some me time. I like to go for walks but that’s something I can do with the pram so I don’t really see that as me time.

What do you do for a bit of mum time?

  1. I go to the gym! Well, I do spin class twice a week and a boot camp as well. It’s how I get my ‘me time’! Thanks for linking up to #ThatFridayLinky

  3. My own time consists of going to the gym, which in fairness isn’t that enjoyable anyway. I wish I could have more time to myself, but I keep reminding myself that this phase isn’t forever #thatfridaylinky

  4. I love the gym too!! I usually go for an hour 3-4 times a week in the morning.. some days it’s strength training other days it’s classes. So nice to get away from the kids sometimes haha.. good luck with your course! 🙂 #MarvMondays

  5. Me time would be great, but Fidget is a daddy’s girl and Little Man has followed suit. It’s very difficult, but we should all make time for ourselves.
