Hi, this is my first post on my new blog; just a little something to introduce myself!
I am 17 and pregnant with my first baby! 11 weeks as of yesterday! I guess this blog (like a few others I have read) will mainly be about my journey from pregnancy to motherhood, and all the struggles and joy that come with both! No doubt there will also be a bit of chit-chat about fashion, food and general thoughts thrown in somewhere too!
I don’t really like the term ‘teen mum’ as I feel it puts a person in a bad light from the off, and as just a statistic set aside to fail. There is such a stereotype about teen parents, and if I’m honest, I wasn’t shy myself to judge and critisise on an unplanned pregnancy at a young age!
Those thoughts changed as soon as I got my head around being pregnant myself! I am now a firm believer that a young person is just as capable as anybody considered an ‘adult’ to carry and raise a baby!
Finding out I was pregnant was quite a shock, especially since my boyfriend knew even before I took a test! Excitement quickly overtook my fear when I started looking online at the numerous baby clothes available in gorgeous colours and patterns. I have always loved babies as my family are always producing so I wasn’t worried about learning how to hold, change or feed a baby as I already knew. What I did do, was dig out every film I had about people that are pregnant and so recorded every ‘One Born Every Minute’ and every other pregnancy/birth related programme.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog and following my journey into motherhood. I was inspired to start a blog when I googled ‘teenage pregnancy stories’ and a blog from a girl named Alice popped up who blogs about raising her daughter Amelia! (http://newyoungmum.wordpress.com/ !!) I loved the idea of having something like this to share with my child and document our lives and the changes of becoming a young mum!
