Finally meeting Amelia was the most amazing feeling ever!
After months of feeling this tiny alien look-alike wriggle and kick every day, its a strangely brilliant moment looking at those tiny little feet in person for the first time ever.
Giving birth is such a surreal experience. There’s a mixture of fear, excitement, pain, wonder and apprehension. I was very fortunate to have such a short and relatively easy labour and birth. According to the midwives I was only in ‘real’ labour for around 4 hours before I felt the urge to push! The last push was the most amazing feeling ever as I knew my baby was finally here and safe.
My support system in the delivery room was a major help in coping with the whole experience – they did exactly what I needed them to do which was simply, do not be annoying! My boyfriend Jack and mum were there through the whole process which took 3 days as I had to be induced on the 25th of March (also my brothers 8th birthday which for the evening he spent in hospital with us!) I gave birth to Amelia on the 26th at 6.36pm, then due to losing a lot more blood than I should have, Amelia and I had to stay over night and were finally allowed home at around 10.30am on the 27th!
Meeting Amelia was the most precious moment ever and in he next few days my experience played over and over in my head. Amelia had an incredible head of hair on her which I was told was the cause of my horrendous heartburn for the past 3 months of my pregnancy! She had big hands and big feet which wasn’t surprising because I have large hands and size 8 feet and her daddy isn’t exactly small! Because my bump was quite big Jack was adamant she was going to be 9lbs, but she fell just short of 9 weighing in at 8lbs 14 1/2oz. We decided to keep Amelia’s name a surprise until after she was born so mum was very excited to finally find out her granddaughters name at last!
Here are a few pictures of my few days in hospital then the moment we finally met baby Amelia Rose
